Chillin'

We got a new bathtub for Emersen. It comes with this hammock like sling thing for newborns. It seemed that it would be more comfortable than laying on the hard plastic. Apparently it was. This, by the way, was after one of Emersen's biggest blowouts. She hadn't gone in awhile and while I was feeding her (again....) she pooped. And then she pooped again and suddenly I felt some poo gooshing out of her diaper into her pants. We rushed her to a sink and removed her pants, which got poop on her legs. Quite a load made it into her pants. And then even a bigger load was in her diaper already! Oh it was a big mess. So we got to use the new bathtub right away. When we put her in the hammock, she just relaxed, dropped her arm into the water and was hanging out. She loved it! She liked it again tonight as well.

Grandma Fischer watched Emersen some during the week (thank you mom!) and during playtime sat Emersen up on the couch to work on sitting up on her own. Mom also got her that shirt. And if I recall correctly, this was a hilariously girly outfit. She had on pink pants with brown polka dots that have a teddy bear on the behind (seriously it's too early to start the trend of pants with something on the butt...) and then bunny socks that were pink and white. But she's a baby so who cares? And what doesn't look cute on a baby?

Another day of my mom watching Emersen...she naps occasionally on the couch while we're downstairs with her. This is also the only reason she's on her belly too - because we're with her. Look at those skinny legs!

Emersen is currently about 7 weeks old. We put her on the scale with Wes and then weighed just Wes - she's about 12.5 lbs or a little more. She's growing up! She's currently wearing 3m in clothes and in size 2 diapers. We tried the Target Up & Up's and they haven't worked for us yet - we had two poop leakages within about 12 hours. She's smiling more and more. And we're working on using the Baby Wise book to implement a routine for her during the day. She already is sleeping through the night before this. We started by just letting her sleep and she woke up at the time we were feeding her at night. The next two nights she would wake up once and go back to sleep. Then she did this two more nights but later in the night. Then she started sleeping through - she sleeps about 10:30pm to 6:30am. This makes things so much easier to handle. I encourage any new mom to not make any decisions about breastfeeding/pumping without getting some rest first - things are easier to handle with sleep under your belt! Things seemed like a bigger deal and more stressful when we were getting the interrupted sleep. Sleep is a beautiful thing. I personally hadn't slept through the night since about my 2nd month of pregnancy. And as my body recovers (yes, still) from pregnancy, I'm sleeping better, my knees aren't hurting as bad and I'm gaining back my abdominal muscles. It's those small victories that are big deals these days. I had my 6 week follow up appointment and everything was great!

  1. Your body will be in recovery for many months to come. I wasn't completely (meaning physically, mentally, hormonally) back to normal until last month, just a heads up. SO glad she's sleeping through the night!
