"I believe I can fly..."

"...spread my wings and touch the sky.
Think about it every night and day,
spread my wings and fly away..."

Name that singer? Name that movie?

So Emersen has learned to fly - on the ground of course. It's her new favorite thing to do. It has assisted her in being able to roll from her belly to her back. So she can roll in all directions, and oh boy, does she. She is waking from naps and rolling around her crib - one end to the other, front to back, side to side and so forth. Leg lifts even. She found her sound monitor that we kept tucked down in a corner and pulled it out and moved it to the other corner. It's no longer in her crib obviously.
She's unbelievable.

Is that red hair I see? Or shall we call is strawberry?

Yes, her collar is popped - thanks to Grandma Fischer for this.

Singer: R. Kelly
Movie: Space Jam

Did you get it right? Surely my child with her popped colla' knew.

The Big 5

Ahh - where's my neck!? And my ears!?

Sitting up better each day! Although, I'm really enjoying standing these days - you can see more from that height!

LOVING my jungle themed Exesaucer from Granna and Grandpa. I MIGHT think I grew up in a jungle because all my toys have this theme... I also like to suck on the beak of the tropical birds when I'm bored.

I might smirk a little bit in a minute. I do enjoy imitating Elvis at times with my lip, and wink often when I think you're funny.

Okay - this 5 months thing is wearing me out people. But thanks for tuning in to celebrate 5 months with me! Oh, by the way, I've lost my Buddha belly - I'm still wearing bigger clothes though - size 6-9 month pants!

Cracker Barrel kind of day

My dad painted this chair to match our rocker on our front porch. I randomly sat her in it, not thinking she'd be able to just sit in it. But she did! And looked SO darn cute. She just sits there like she does it all the time. Hilarious.

Emersen is "crying it out" right now as I type this. That's our method. We pretty much go by the Baby Wise method - eat, play, sleep. It's what works for her, she needs her sleep. We keep wanting to transition her to eating 4 times a day but she, before, couldn't eat enough at once because of her reflux to get enough to get full. Now though we're working cereal in twice daily, so hopefully we can switch soon. I think she would like the longer naps even though it would be less in one day. She takes about 7 oz at each bottle, cereal twice a day.

I am finishing this blog today, Monday, because right after I typed the above paragraph, Em took to imitating the civil defense sirens in her crib and we had to talk about it. Things worked out okay. And we ARE trying to space out her feedings today - we'll see how it goes again. Hopefully longer naps will mean happier baby - more out loud chuckles are okay with me!

Mmm...mush

Well, it's about that time. We got the go ahead to start solids with Em any time now. So we're starting a little rice cereal each day. She has been showing a lot of interest in our food and drink lately. I've put some foods in her mouth to gum on and shared my fork with her a couple times. So didn't spit anything back at us or choke and gag or anything, so we considered the experience a success!

We've given her a little each day and she's gotten better at eating each day. Today she didn't make a "what are you giving me lady?" face, so that's improvement I suppose.

We'll keep on trying. I personally wouldn't want to eat that stuff, seems pretty bland and yucky to me. Fortunately, we had a little bowl and spoon set for little ones - the bowl had a suction cup on the bottom so baby can't swipe the bowl away. She did swipe at the spoon and knock it around some today - she's fiesty!

Miss Diva

God bless my child who lets me play with her almost any way I want!

We celebrated with Keener and Greggy at a surprise party for Keene's 60th birthday. It was during the time when she normally sleeps but she did okay. The party was so nice and Keener was surprised for sure! She surely does look wonderful these days....just wonderful!

I sure love dressing up Emersen, but it's SO impractical for a baby. Trying to keep a dress down and stockings up...sheesh! And I'm sure most of you know I'm morally opposed to panty hose - they're from the devil. Thanks to Ashley for the super cute bow with an "E" on it!

Em showed a lot of interest in an open cup of Coke this night - she smacked it and spilled it. Guess that's just her showing her interest in our food and eating habits. More to come on that later.

Faces of E - Part 2

Look at THAT face...and hair. Go ahead, pinch those chubby cheeks.

We had our checkup and shots yesterday. It all went well. She is up to 17 lbs 1 oz, 28 1/4 inches long. That's 95th percentile on weight, 99th on height. We can start introducing some solid foods as well. And for her eczema, he recommended bathing every day AS LONG AS we put the Aquafor on within 60 seconds of her coming out of the water. So we'll try it! Her skin has improved significantly as of late, mostly just dry rather than scaly or bumpy.

Other stats - rolling over from back to front ALL the time, slobbering a lot (no sign of teeth yet), she's found her feet, she likes to sit up and is getting to where if I sit her right in my lap, she can do it by herself a few seconds, sleeping 9hrs at night, eating 5 times a day for around 33-36 oz daily. She has even been inching her little butt up while on her belly - she wants to GO!

That's about all we're up to these days.
Which is plenty and we're grateful for every day with her.
